Good day, and welcome to part two of my Christmas 2016 trip to Hawaii. (For part one, click here).
My lodging on Maui was in the town of Kihei. After my first night on Maui, I got up early and made my way to the town of Maalaea, taking a few photos along the way…

At Maalaea I boarded a boat and rode out to Molokini Crater for some snorkeling. It was enjoyable, but I would advise against it. The water at Molokini Crater is just too deep for snorkeling. Most of the fishies are so far below you that you can barely make ’em out. I imagine it would be a great place for SCUBA diving, but if you’re looking specifically for snorkeling, try to find a place where the water is much more shallow. As we were headed back to the dock, we spotted some humpback whales breaching in the distance; nothing close enough to photograph with the cheap old camera I had with me. Once I was back on land, I continued to the town of Lahaina, where I found a Buddhist mission…

…and a hazardous wharf…

The next morning, I got up early again. After my experience attempting to drive the Hana “Highway” a couple days before, I was excited to learn that you can simply hop on board a shuttle bus and let someone else do the driving. And of course, they know all the good places to stop along the way.

The next day was spent exploring the rocky coastline to the south of Kihei…

To be continued next week…
