Texas Trip Report (Day 6)

As I was taking my first round of meds this morning, I noticed that one of my bottles was feeling pretty light. So I counted the pills and found to my horror that I DIDN’T BRING ENOUGH PRAMIPEXOLE for the whole trip! So it’s a very, VERY good thing that I bring my Aware In Care kit with me on my trips. The idea behind the Aware In Care kit is that, in the event you become hospitalized, it provides doctors and nurses with key information about you and about treating Parkinson’s patients. The makers of this kit also advise that you keep a two-day supply of all your meds in the kit, Just In Case. So I do. And I was exceedingly lucky that I only had a one-day shortfall in the number of Pramipexole pills packed. Had I not been able to raid my emergency supply, things could have gone badly.

TRAVEL TIP: If you have Parkinson’s, get yourself an Aware In Care kit! They are FREE (well, eight bucks) from Parkinson’s Foundation, and mine may have saved my life today! Well, probably not, but it did save my sanity. Click here to learn more and/or get your own.

The plan for today was to visit the Galveston Railroad Museum, then probably Galveston Beach. I had never been to Galveston so, much like San Antonio just a couple days ago, it had not occurred to me that I should allow for ogling various buildings. But on this day, I actually left my camera at the hotel (40 miles away). So I had to beat myself up a bit when I saw the cool Art Deco railroad station that houses the Galveston Railroad Museum. A subsequent beating had to be performed when I discovered Galveston has a much larger downtown than I had guessed, and that it’s loaded with picturesque 19th and early 20th Century buildings. But I couldn’t let the train station go unphotographed, so I snapped a few pics with my phone…

I ended up spending about four hours at the Galveston Railroad Museum. It’s quite a good museum, and has a solid collection of locomotives and train cars outside (though nothing as unusual as the Aerotrain in St. Louis).

As planned, I headed to Galveston Beach next. But when I got there, I found that my bikini no longer fits. So I went shopping and then headed back to the hotel.
