Yellowstone 2020, part one

During the summer of 2020, I made a life-long dream come true: I stayed an entire week at lodgings inside Yellowstone National Park. Not surprisingly, I ended up with a LOT of photographs. Having been on a couple of quick weekend trips to Yellowstone over the previous decades, I knew how spectacular the place is. Since I wanted to capture at least a decent-looking sampling of that spectacularity, I decided for the first time ever, to bring my Good Camera on a flight. But there were a couple of shots I had to capture before I got around to digging the camera out of my luggage. So, these two pictures were taken on my phone:

By the time I reached my lodging (Sandpiper Lodge, at Lake Yellowstone), it was quite late and very dark. After getting settled in my room, I slept. The next morning, I saw this stuff around the lodge:

My first stop for the day was Yellowstone Canyon – the place that gave the park its name. Here there are two big waterfalls and yes, plenty of yellow stone. See for yourself (or have your seeing-eye dog describe it to you):

After a quick lunch next to Yellowstone Canyon, I headed for the Mud Volcano area. There’s really cool stuff here, but it was raining off and on, so I didn’t stay as long as I might have liked. Nevertheless, here’s some of what I saw while I was there:

By this time, the rain was moron than off, and it was just plain cold! So, to round out Day 1, I drove along the west shore of Yellowstone Lake, taking pictures at random spots along the way. See them NOW!

That’s it for Day One of my 2020 Yellowstone trip. Tune in next week for Day Two, and in the meantime, I should be ready to make a major announcement within the next few days. Just you wait and see!
