Lack o’ Summer Plans

At some point between my Mississippi trip and the Nevada one, I decided not to move forward with planning my summer trip(s) until I had accomplished several things. I included getting LASIK on that list o’ several things. But other things on the list took precedent, and I spent way too much time playing games on my phone and my laptop. It wasn’t until just a couple weeks ago that I realized my hoped-for late June trip wasn’t going to happen if I didn’t get my arse in gear. So, I finally emailed my local LASIK center to schedule a consultation. As I expected, I would need to have an eye exam before the consultation, since it’s been at least five years since my most recent exam. As I did not expect, their eye exam calendar was all filled up through July! After ensuring they would accept results from my “regular” eye doctor, I called the shop where I used to take my eyes to get looked at. To my surprise, the soonest they could get me in was June third. So, I accepted a June 3rd appointment and the fact that my summer trip may be delayed a bit. Today, I got a voicemail saying the doctor won’t actually be in the office on June 3rd, and I need to call back to re-schedule.

So, it’s starting to look like I won’t be taking any Official Vacations this summer. Then again, ever since I retired, a large percentage of my trips have been impromptu or planned at short notice. Ultimately, whether I take any “big” trips this summer depends on what my friends and fam end up doing. And I’ll almost certainly take a few day trips (maybe even overnight trips) to the Appalachians with Bear in tow. Or, if it’s not too hot out, with Bear towing the van.

But that’s just for the summer. My plans for the rest of the year are still set. In September, I’ll go somewhere, though I’m not fully decided where. At present, it looks to be Kentucky, Connecticut, or Rhode Island. I’m pretty much set on Georgia in December. Oh, and I need to figure out when my annual Colorado visit will be.
