Pierson Park (May 2008)

Today’s installment of ThrowBack Thursday will be quite short, as I am about to be abducted by aliens. On the last day of May 2008, I got together with a couple of people and a couple of dogs, and we made an attempt to hike to a place even most Coloradans haven’t heard of: Pierson Park. Pierson Park is at the southern end of an area known as Homestead Meadows, which is where I ultimately wanted to go…but I didn’t quite get there on this attempt. The route we took required parking in a residential area at the southeastern corner of Estes Park, Colorado. From there, we walked down an old logging road – and I mean we hiked DOWN. This is one of those rare hikes where you start at the high end of the trail and walk downhill until you begin wondering whether you’ll be able to climb back up. We got all the way down to the point where our old logging road met up with the road into Pierson Park. At this point, however, two of the three humans in the party were indeed beginning to wonder whether we could haul ourselves up what we had just come down. So, we headed back. Even though we didn’t reach our destination, it was a perfectly enjoyable hike for the scenery along the way. Have a look:

OK, gotta go! My interstellar ride is here. Nanoo nanoo!
