I am running way late again this week, so today’s edition of ThrowBack Thursday will be another tiny one. Today, we saunter back through time to the 19th of June 2010. On this day I made my first (and thus far only) attempt at visiting the remains of Holy Cross City, Colorado. Getting to this ghost town is no easy task. The road to the mining town of Holy Cross City is notoriously rough. It’s open to high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles, but I was not equipped with such a beast, so I tried hiking the old road. After seeing some of the rockier sections of the road, I don’t think I would attempt to four-wheel it no matter how mighty a vehicle I may be able to acquire. But hiking it didn’t work either. After a serious climb, the road crosses a stream. By that, I mean you have to drive through the stream; there is no bridge. This might not be a big deal were it not for the fact the stream bed is one of the rockiest stretches of the whole road. To make matters worse, at this particular time of year, the stream was a raging torrent. I walked up and downstream a good distance but was unable to find anywhere that seemed even remotely safe to attempt a crossing on foot. So, with tears in my eyes and goats waiting in my bed, I gave up and headed home. But at least I got a few pics of the excellent scenery along the way…

That’s all for this week. When/where will we go next week? Who knows? My laziness has made it difficult to plan ahead that far. But I can definitely say that it will be somewhere in Colorado.
