Vyalev Pump: More Good News

Good news! Over the last two weeks, I have had no new issues with the Vyalev pump. I am still experiencing the aftermath of the last big issue. There’s still a BIG nodule and the skin is still red, but it’s smaller and less angry-looking than it was before. And it no longer hurts.

Yesterday, I had a regularly scheduled appointment with my Parkinson’s Disease (PD) specialist. He took a look at the remaining lump and pronounced that it was not infected. But he did say that he has had Vyalev pump patients who did get infections at injection sites, and he has had to prescribe antibiotics for these folks.

The Doc also said that some of his Vyalev pump patients have been able to stop taking all of their other PD medications, and he recommended I try doing so. Y’see, the Vyalev device pumps liquid carbidopa / levodopa (Levo) into the skin, replacing the traditional pill form of Levo. But many PD patients are taking more than just Levo to treat the disease. I myself take three PD meds on a daily basis, two more on an “as needed” basis, and three “nutritional supplements”. So, yeah, if I could be getting the same results with JUST the liquid Levo, I would love to do away with the other meds.

I will start by trying to wean myself off of Pramipexole (Prami). This is something I’ve tried to do multiple times in the past, without much luck. I am hopeful that my now-continuous stream of Levo will enable me to finally kick Prami out of my life. As always, I’ll let ya know how it goes.
