I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease (PD) in January of 2015, at the age of 42. Five years later, the progression of PD forced me into an early retirement. It was almost another two years before I finally made this blog happen.
Before I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), I only knew one thing about it: that it causes tremors. I had never imagined the rich tapestry of symptoms that I now get to deal with from day to day. I imagine at least a few … Continue reading Sense of Smell
Here’s something the vast majority of you will have absolutely no interest in: During July 2010, I went to a family reunion. Now, don’t worry, I’m not going to bore you with stories/pictures of my family. I only mention it because four of us did … Continue reading Idaho (July 2010)
Note: this is a continuation from Part 1. Well, I’ve got it all figured out now. The drastic change in symptoms that I described in Part 1 was due to nicotine poisoning. When I ran out of my initial two-week supply of nicotine patches, I … Continue reading Sudden Change in Symptoms (Part 2)
Do you have a room in your house that you never go into? And/or one where you haven’t opened the curtains / blinds in quite some time. I have the latter type. It’s the dog’s room. I keep the curtains closed in there in hopes that he’ll see fewer people / things outside to bark about. Well, I went into this room the other morning, opened the curtain, and was faced with this:
Yup. A vine that is trying to completely cover a bush just outside the window has actually found its way INTO THE HOUSE. It managed to squeeze in through a tiny gap where the two window frames come together (when the window is closed). What are the odds? Seriously, what are they? Now that I know the outcome, I might use the Way-the-Hell-Back Machine to go to Vegas and place a bet on it. Come to think of it, why am I not already using my Way-the-Hell-Back Machine for sports betting? I need to get my priorities straight.
At the end of my previous ThrowBack Thursday (TBT) post, I said that the destination for my next TBT will likely be Eldorado Canyon State Park near Boulder, Colorado. Due to a lack of unforeseen circumstances, I was right. So, let’s head back to July … Continue reading Eldorado Canyon State Park (July 2009)
Tuesday was Day Five of my Grand Nicotine Experiment. And I felt damn good. I went to my usual Rock Steady Boxing session, and all the exercises we did seemed effortless. It was the best I’ve felt during a workout in years. Wednesday and Thursday … Continue reading Sudden Change in Symptoms
Today we fire up the Way-the-Hell-Back Machine so’s it can take us back to July 2009. And yes, I do mean “fire up”. That’s right…the Way-the-Hell-Back Machine runs on coal. The idea of a coal-fired time machine may seem odd at first, but it makes … Continue reading Roxborough State Park (July 2009)
Today is day three of The Great Nicotine Trial. I’m using store brand patches that are labelled as having 21 mg of nicotine, and store brand gum labelled as 4 mg of nicotine. Here are my thoughts so far: The patch instructions say to put … Continue reading Nicotine Follow-Up
Hey! HEY! It’s time for another ThrowBack Thursday! You’d think I’d be out of material for these posts by now, but I just keep digging up more. For example, during February 2011, a dear friend moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee – and I went out to … Continue reading Historic Fort Wood Neighborhood (February 2011)
