Day 4: I had set aside Day 4 as a beach day. Just hangin’ out on the beach, reading a book, occasionally splashin’ around on the water a bit. But I hadn’t brought a beach chair with me, and I didn’t see anywhere to get … Continue reading Maryland 2025 Trip Report (Days 4 through 6)
Day 2: One of the items that was on my list of things to do in Maryland was to drive the Harriett Tubman Underground Railway Byway. To me, beginning this trek at the nearby Harriett Tubman Museum seemed sensible. Now, I already knew Harriet Tubman … Continue reading Maryland 2025 Trip Report (Days 2 and 3)
If you’re looking for scenery in Colorado, generally speaking, you want to be west of Interstate 25. There are two or three exceptions, one of which we will visit today. Strap on your headgear, folks! We’re going back to August of 2008, to Castlewood Canyon … Continue reading Castlewood Canyon State Park (August 2008)
Today’s ThrowBack Thursday is a brief one, as I’m still trying to get caught up after my trip to Michigan, while simultaneously preparing for my next trip (back to Colorado). So, go ahead and climb into the Way-The-Hell-Back Machine as I fill ‘er up with … Continue reading Walker Ranch (April 2008)
With the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the rearview mirror, I prepared to put the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the frontview mirror. But before I could do that (or even figure out how to do that), I had a state park to visit. … Continue reading Michigan 2024 Trip Report (Day 9)
I’ll be keeping today’s episode of ThrowBack Thursday short, partly because I am recuperating from elective eyeball surgery, and partly because I still have a lot to iron out in regard to my next trip (which is only 11 days away). It was September 2007. … Continue reading California (September 2007)
Hey! It’s Thursday! Time for another ThrowBack. We begin our voyage with Cedric’s employment status. At the beginning of April 2011, I was starting a new job with a government contractor. I would be working at the Denver Federal Center, but I had to spend … Continue reading Chesapeake Bay (April 2011)
Here’s something the vast majority of you will have absolutely no interest in: During July 2010, I went to a family reunion. Now, don’t worry, I’m not going to bore you with stories/pictures of my family. I only mention it because four of us did … Continue reading Idaho (July 2010)
I have a pond in my backyard. I also have several trees in my backyard. Not surprisingly (since I live in North Carolina), this means my property is home to both tree frogs and pond frogs. But during my first spring at this house, when the frogs started their nightly hollering, I noticed some of the sounds coming from the pond didn’t seem…natural. In addition to the low-pitched croaks of the pond frogs and the high-pitched peeps of the tree frogs there came a most unusual sound. A sound unlike anything I’ve heard anywhere, except maybe in 1950’s science fiction movies. I concluded that my pond had been invaded by alien frogs. I have waited over three years for the opportunity to make First Contact with these beings from another world. In that time, I have seen a few tree frogs, and many pond frogs – but no aliens. Finally, last week, one of the alien frogs made an appearance on my patio furniture. Behold…the first known photos of a frog from another planet…
Since I already had my camera out, and he was just a few feet away, I also grabbed a gratuitous shot of Bear lazin’ in the shade…
The frog and I are still working on finding a translator, so we can begin a knowledge transfer between our two great cultures.
Howdy and welcome to another episode of ThrowBack Thursday. Today we’re throwing up back to August of 2011, when I took a day trip to Leadville, Colorado and another day trip (on another day, don’t ya know) to Caribou Ranch, also in Colorado. Everyone please … Continue reading Leadville & Caribou Ranch (August 2011)
