Today we fire up the Way-the-Hell-Back Machine so’s it can take us back to July 2009. And yes, I do mean “fire up”. That’s right…the Way-the-Hell-Back Machine runs on coal. The idea of a coal-fired time machine may seem odd at first, but it makes … Continue reading Roxborough State Park (July 2009)
Today is day three of The Great Nicotine Trial. I’m using store brand patches that are labelled as having 21 mg of nicotine, and store brand gum labelled as 4 mg of nicotine. Here are my thoughts so far: The patch instructions say to put … Continue reading Nicotine Follow-Up
Hey! HEY! It’s time for another ThrowBack Thursday! You’d think I’d be out of material for these posts by now, but I just keep digging up more. For example, during February 2011, a dear friend moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee – and I went out to … Continue reading Historic Fort Wood Neighborhood (February 2011)
A couple weeks ago, I mentioned the possibility of using nicotine to treat Parkinson’s Disease (PD), but I wasn’t sure at the time whether I wanted to try it for myself. Well, I’ve talked myself into it. I will be starting nicotine therapy within a week. And to make sure I don’t get confused as to what changes (if any) are being caused by which therapy, I will temporarily cease taking the lion’s mane mushroom supplements. As I said when I started on the shrooms, I’ll let you know if I experience any major changes in my PD symptoms. If I don’t notice any changes after a year, I’ll take stock of my condition and report back to you at that time.
If you’ve been reading this blog from its beginning, you should already know that the area around Fruita, Colorado is one of my favorite places on Earth. At least two previous ThrowBack Thursdays (one and two) have been dedicated to the area. Today we go … Continue reading N. Fruita Desert & Mt. Sanitas (Spring 2011)
I have a pond in my backyard. I also have several trees in my backyard. Not surprisingly (since I live in North Carolina), this means my property is home to both tree frogs and pond frogs. But during my first spring at this house, when the frogs started their nightly hollering, I noticed some of the sounds coming from the pond didn’t seem…natural. In addition to the low-pitched croaks of the pond frogs and the high-pitched peeps of the tree frogs there came a most unusual sound. A sound unlike anything I’ve heard anywhere, except maybe in 1950’s science fiction movies. I concluded that my pond had been invaded by alien frogs. I have waited over three years for the opportunity to make First Contact with these beings from another world. In that time, I have seen a few tree frogs, and many pond frogs – but no aliens. Finally, last week, one of the alien frogs made an appearance on my patio furniture. Behold…the first known photos of a frog from another planet…
Since I already had my camera out, and he was just a few feet away, I also grabbed a gratuitous shot of Bear lazin’ in the shade…
The frog and I are still working on finding a translator, so we can begin a knowledge transfer between our two great cultures.
Howdy and welcome to another episode of ThrowBack Thursday. Today we’re throwing up back to August of 2011, when I took a day trip to Leadville, Colorado and another day trip (on another day, don’t ya know) to Caribou Ranch, also in Colorado. Everyone please … Continue reading Leadville & Caribou Ranch (August 2011)
At some point between my Mississippi trip and the Nevada one, I decided not to move forward with planning my summer trip(s) until I had accomplished several things. I included getting LASIK on that list o’ several things. But other things on the list took … Continue reading Lack o’ Summer Plans
During the summer of 2011, I moved from the city of Longmont to the city o’ Lakewood. The apartment I moved into would be my last residence in Colorado, but I didn’t yet know that. What I did know was that I loved my new … Continue reading Lakewood, Colorado (August 2011)
