When writing this blog, I am usually sitting at the computer desk in my living room, which is right next to a window overlooking my back yard and Ballard’s Pond. Not long ago, I glanced out this window to find that this little lady had … Continue reading Greetings from Reproduction Junction
I have a pond in my backyard. I also have several trees in my backyard. Not surprisingly (since I live in North Carolina), this means my property is home to both tree frogs and pond frogs. But during my first spring at this house, when the frogs started their nightly hollering, I noticed some of the sounds coming from the pond didn’t seem…natural. In addition to the low-pitched croaks of the pond frogs and the high-pitched peeps of the tree frogs there came a most unusual sound. A sound unlike anything I’ve heard anywhere, except maybe in 1950’s science fiction movies. I concluded that my pond had been invaded by alien frogs. I have waited over three years for the opportunity to make First Contact with these beings from another world. In that time, I have seen a few tree frogs, and many pond frogs – but no aliens. Finally, last week, one of the alien frogs made an appearance on my patio furniture. Behold…the first known photos of a frog from another planet…
Since I already had my camera out, and he was just a few feet away, I also grabbed a gratuitous shot of Bear lazin’ in the shade…
The frog and I are still working on finding a translator, so we can begin a knowledge transfer between our two great cultures.
I recently bought a huge white minivan, an “upgrade” from my usual 4-door sedan. There were two main reasons for this. One was that Parkinson’s was sometimes making it difficult to get in and out of my last sedan. The other was that I never … Continue reading Prequel to Traveling with a Great Pyrenees
Quite some time ago, I determined that I would not take my Great Pyrenees pooch (Bear) with me on my travels. The main problem is that he barks ALOT when he’s guarding his “den”. I tried taking him to an air-bnb for a weekend, to … Continue reading Traveling with a Great Pyrenees
I get an email anytime someone “follows” this blog. There’s not much info in these emails: just a user name or email address. But most people use an email / user name that tells you something about them, and I’ve noticed that a lot of … Continue reading The question no one asks about Bear
It’s been a while since I posted anything about my dog, Bear, so here’s a quick one fer ya. This is Bear laying claim to my hall bathroom, when he was about two months old, and again at the age of three years.
During the Spring of 2013, I took some family for a ride on the Royal Gorge Railroad. The ride begins at the Cañon City, Colorado railroad station. From there, it travels the length of the Gorge (upstream), then reverses direction and comes back down the … Continue reading Royal Gorge Railroad (March 2013)
Well, I’ve done my yardwork for the day. I just mowed the garden. I had the mower right up against the house, and Bear was sitting inside at the window, barking. At first I thought he was proudly demonstrating that he can be louder than … Continue reading Frog Habitat
A coupla weeks before I left on my big Colorado / Wyoming trip, a frog sat itself down on the rim of Bear’s wading pool, demanding that I take its picture. I shot the former tadpole from a few angles; I think these came out … Continue reading A Coupla Months Ago
ThrowBack Thursday (TBT), as you have come to know it here on Voyages With Parkinson’s, was originally created as a way to force myself to catch up on what had become a nine-year backlog of photos. I am now caught up (or will be once … Continue reading Pics Taken Around the House (March 2021 – Jan. 2022)
