Day 13: I woke up on Day 13 eager to continue my exploration of Mackinac Island. But almost immediately, my legs felt very tired and weak. It seems all the walking I’ve been doing on this trip had finally caught up with me. I pondered … Continue reading Michigan 2024 Trip Report (the final two days)
Day 11: Last time we met, I told you that the only way you can see the Pictured Rocks themselves is from the waters of Lake Superior. Yet the boundaries of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore stretch over five miles inland in some spots. Why? … Continue reading Michigan 2024 Trip Report (Days 11 and 12)
As I pulled into the town of Munising last night, I noticed a Hardee’s. I can never say No to a Hardee’s, so that’s where I went for my evening food. I wonder now if that was the best choice. My gut woke me up … Continue reading Michigan 2024 Trip Report (Day 10)
With the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the rearview mirror, I prepared to put the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the frontview mirror. But before I could do that (or even figure out how to do that), I had a state park to visit. … Continue reading Michigan 2024 Trip Report (Day 9)

A day and a half from this instant, I will be in the air again. The airport experience should be a bit different this time. It’ll be my first time flying with velcro shoes, so the security line would probably be easier than it typically … Continue reading Flying Will Be Different This Time
The date is finally set for my Refractive Lens Exchange surgery. Assuming I pass one final evaluation at the end of this week, I will get my bionic eyeballs on July 31st. Now that I know that, I can finally begin planning my summer trip. And I’ve decided to go to Michigan in mid-August. My plans include four museums (including two railroad museums), two national lakeshores, two state parks, one rock arch, one historic fort, and far too much fudge. And I will report it all to you here, on Voyages With Parkinson’s!
As for the rest of the year, I’ve decided to drop my earlier idea of going to New England for the foliage. Instead, I will take my annual Colorado trip at the end of September / beginning of October. I can only hope the aspens will be as stunning as they were two years ago.
